SFCC has a rich history of successfully implementing construction programs through Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) driven curriculum for direct entry to union apprenticships and career placements in the construction industry. In July 2011, the Laborers Joint Apprenticeshp Training Committee (LJATC) approved SFCC as a pre-apprenticeship program. In November 2011, SFCC partnered with the Carpenters Training Committee for Northern California to support Pre-Apprenticeship Readiness as a primary means of entry into the construction industry. In June 2014, SFCC secured a 5 year grant through Proposition 39 (Clean Energy Job Creation Funds) to support our pre-apprentice construction training program.
Over the last 5 years, SFCC has taught 18 cohorts (average 4-5 per year, over 215 graduates), awarded over 700 certifications in MC3, Forklift, Confined Spaces, Traffic Control, OSHA-10 & CPR/First Aid, placed over 70 graduates in State-Approved Apprenticeships (Carpenters, Laborer, Plasters, Glaziers, etc.) and employed over 90 graduates in jobs in the construction & energy sector. On March 4th, we kicked off our final Prop 39 cohort! And on March 25, we began Certification Week where our Corpsmembers became certified in CPR/First Aid, OSHA-10, and Traffic Control, becoming one step closer to being accepted into a union in the San Francisco Bay Area.
