Organization Summary:
San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) provides professional job‐training and educational development opportunities for individuals 18‐26 years of age through a variety of environmentally focused, community service‐based programs. In coordination with job‐training and educational attainment, SFCC offers wrap‐ around services, such as housing assistance and mental health and wellness referrals, aimed at reducing social and financial barriers, and uplifting low‐income and disadvantaged communities in San Francisco. SFCC focuses on two job‐training pathways: natural resources management and recycling. Natural resources management projects include habitat restoration, fire fuel reduction, plant care and farming, landscaping maintenance, and trail building. Recycling projects include the collection of and education around recycling beverage containers, e‐waste, waste tires, and used oil.

Pay rate: $85,000 - $110,000.00 per year
JOB SUMMARY
The Natural Resources Director will take a leadership role to develop and oversee all aspects of SFCC’s Natural Resources program. The Natural Resources Director is responsible for all aspects of natural resources, including, but not limited to, job training and safety compliance, revenue generation, and achievement of agency goals. The Natural Resources Director is also responsible for the development and implementation of projects through government grants and fee-for-service contracts, while professionally managing all aspects of comprehensive professional work and job-training programs. The Natural Resources Director is responsible for facilitating communication and the integration of all natural resources and other departments within SFCCs, as well as creating a positive atmosphere to encourage learning and high-quality project completion.
SFCC’s program guides and mentors participants, known as Corpsmembers, in personal and academic development, professionalism, public interaction, environmental ethics, recycling, and natural resource issues. The Natural Resources Director will ensure that all operational staff provide Corpsmembers with initial and ongoing mentorship and educational support.
This position supports the Executive Director by carrying out special projects as assigned and by keeping them apprised of any pending issues.
Operations Management
Direct and assist with managing the overall field operations to achieve the triple bottom line (financial, social, and environmental) goals.
Plan and implement fees for service projects. Negotiates contracts.
Assure a high level of professionalism and customer service.
Coordinate all billing and contracts with Accounting & Finance Department.
Determine the cost, potential funding, feasibility, and appropriateness of projects and programs.
Ensure compliance with all state and local health, safety, work, and facilities requirements.
Contract and Grant Management
Assist with grant management, including grant proposal submissions, record keeping and reporting.
Develop projects and programs that comply with funding guidelines.
Assist Development Department in providing information for other project-related and training grants.
Develop and maintain relationships with state and local government agencies, environmental organizations, and community agencies.
Evaluate programs, tracks, and documents results. Monitors and modifies programs to ensure they are completed within approved budgets. Prepares written evaluations on program accomplishments as required by the funding source.
Staffing and Supervision
Train staff and corpsmembers (trainees).
Manage, plan, assigns and direct work of up to 15 staff.
Oversee up to 100 corps members (trainees).
Qualifications and Experience

A college degree in management, environmental science, business, or a related field or equivalent experience.
Four or more years of experience in a management position is preferred.
Extensive experience and technical skills in operations, including contracting and project management, are preferred.
Experience in program development, grant management, and reporting preferred.
Must have superior communication skills, both written and verbal, and effectively represent SFCC with funders, project sponsors, and in the community.
Strong organizational skills, ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and experience with MS Office software and databases.
Experience in developing and managing budgets.
Proven ability to work with people from a wide variety of social, economic and educational backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and mediate disputes.
Clean driving record and ability to obtain a CA Class B driver’s license.
First Aid/CPR certification within 3 months of hire.

The Natural Resources Director sometimes works outdoors around equipment and machinery, walking on uneven ground and steep hillsides, with exposure to excessive noise, fumes, and extremes in temperature. They may be expected to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and carry objects at least 1/4 mile. This position frequently uses special visual and auditory protective equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the Natural Resources Director is required to walk and stand; sit and bend; squat and climb; kneel and twist; to talk or hear. Use their hands to perform simple and power grasping, and fine manipulation; to push and pull.
Additionally, there are normal office working conditions and associated physical demands. For example, on a continuous basis, sit at a desk using a computer and in meetings for long periods of time. Intermittently twist to reach equipment surrounding the desk.
