Organization Summary

San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) provides professional job‐training and educational development opportunities for individuals 18‐26 years of age through a variety of environmentally focused, community service‐based programs. In coordination with job‐training and educational attainment, SFCC offers wrap‐around services, such as housing assistance and mental health and wellness referrals, aimed at reducing social and financial barriers and uplifting low‐income and disadvantaged communities in San Francisco. SFCC focuses on two job‐training pathways: natural resources management and recycling. Natural resources management projects include habitat restoration, fire fuel reduction, plant care and farming, landscaping maintenance, and trail building. Recycling projects include the collection of and education around recycling beverage containers, e‐waste, waste tires, and used oil.

Job Summary

Under the direction of SFCC’s Natural Resources Coordinator, the dispatcher coordinates with DPW Bureau of Urban Forestry staff about which locations SFCC’s four watering trucks will be going to on a daily basis. Provides instruction to SFCC’s water truck drivers on where to go and fields their inquiries. Also field inquiries from DPW- BUF staff and relays messages to the SFCC Field Operations staff. Dispatches vehicles on a pre-set route for each driver daily in the interest of meeting grant deliverables.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that routes are balanced daily.

  • Update Salesforce Database as necessary.

  • Reviews driver’s paperwork and files paperwork

  • Always maintains a safe and compliant workplace.

  • Communicate performance standards and objectives.

  • Assists Trans Supervisor/Manager as needed/directed.

  • Provides the highest level of customer service to all callers.

  • Assists drivers with problems/issues as issues arise (during the day or at the end of the route)

  • Assist SFCC and DPW staff with setting routes, route changes, and communication throughout the day.

  • Monitor, process, and escalate any operational issues from the field in a timely fashion to the Natural Resources Coordinator.

  • Review and update routes, based on daily communication, and reroutes SFCC water trucks as required.

  • Keeps staff informed of current problems, changes, and new developments in the department and company by conducting professional, organized, and participative meetings.

  • In the absence of a manager/supervisor, monitor and ensure that employees are performing their functions safely and productively. Make recommendations for changes or improvement, when necessary, in order to prevent accidents or injuries.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

The dispatcher sometimes works outdoors around equipment and machinery, walking on uneven ground and steep hillsides, with exposure to excessive noise, fumes, and extremes in temperature. They may be expected to lift and move objects weighing up to 75 lbs. and carry objects at least ½ mile. This position frequently uses special visual and auditory protective equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the Recycling Program Manager is required to walk and stand; sit and bend; squat and climb; kneel and twist; to talk or hear. They use their hands to perform simple and power grasping, and fine manipulation; to push and pull.

Additionally, there are normal office working conditions and associated physical demands. For example, on a continuous basis, sit at a desk using a computer and in meetings for long periods of time. Intermittently twist to reach equipment surrounding the desk.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ Years experience, preferably in Transportation, Logistics, Routing, and Customer Service

  • Knowledge of and comfortable with using Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
