Job Title: Field Projects Supervising Driver
Classifications: Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Non Temporary
Compensation: $16.71 to $18.91 per hour DOE
Health Benefits: Not offered to part-time employees (but contributions are made in accordance with the SF Health Care Security Ordinance)
Salaried/Hourly: Hourly
Hours: Normally 32 hours per week (hours vary depending on field projects schedules)
Schedule:

Days of Week: Normally Mondays through Thursdays (days may vary based on department needs)
Times: Varied – 7:30 am to 4:00 pm

Department: Service Projects
Location: Upper Fort Mason
Licenses/Certificates Required:Valid CA Driver’s License, insurability on SFCC driving insurance; Class B, First Aid/CPR must be obtained during first four months.
Reports to: Field Projects Manager

Program Description

The San Francisco Conservation Corps (SFCC) is a non-profit job readiness and education program serving young adults between the approximate ages of 18 and 26 who work within crews to address community needs through service and conservation-related work. SFCC job readiness opportunities for young adults include, but are not limited to, landscaping, restoration, installing play structures at public schools and community centers, recycling, and internships. Concurrently and in partnership with the John Muir Charter School, the young adults focus on attaining their High School Diploma and GED or participate in the Corps-to-Career higher education program.

Job Summary

The Field Projects Supervising Driver is responsible for supervising crews of Corpsmembers (or the young adults involved in our program), and ensuring that field projects are completed to specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Implementation (constant – more than 66% of time): Implement and supervise all necessary tasks to set up, complete, and maintain field projects; implement and monitor detailed work plans; transport CMs and SFCC equipment, ensure safety protocols are adhered to.
  • Corpsmember Supervision (constant – more than 66% of time): Supervise crews of young adults (Corpsmembers); instruct Corpsmembers on and oversee all aspects of field projects and tasks as determined by the Field Projects Manager; ensure all policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Administration (frequent – 34-66% of time): Complete all necessary administrative tasks efficiently and on time including DRCs, vehicle inspections, policy violations reports, etc.

Typical Working Conditions

Typical working conditions include, but are not limited to, frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; frequent twisting, turning, and reaching; occasional climbing, crawling, kneeling, squatting, and walking; and occasional walking on uneven or slippery surfaces. Typical working conditions also frequently involve working outdoors in all types of terrain and in all types of weather conditions.

Equipment Used

This position requires frequent operation of agency vehicles to drive to various sites and venues throughout the SF Bay Area, which requires insurability on the SFCC’s driving insurance policy and the ability to operate agency vehicles and navigate by automobile throughout the SF Bay Area. This position also requires infrequent use of various hand tools, power tools, electrical equipment, safety attire and equipment (provided by the SFCC).

Minimum Education and Experience Required

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience in recycling or environmental field.
  • Demonstrated ability to give direction regarding safety and to implement safety procedures.
  • 6 months of verifiable employment where driving was part of the duties.
  • Must have a CA driver’s license and be eligible for SFCC’s driver’s insurance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in recycling, conservation, or other environmentally-related field preferred.
  • Some past experience in a supervisory role preferred.

Minimum Skills Required

  • Leadership, conflict management, and resolution skills.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility.
  • Ability to work a varied, flexible schedule, including different days of the week and early morning start times and late-at-night end times depending on the events schedules.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Some experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook preferred.
